Travelers' Diarrhea
Travelers' diarrhea is a symptom, not a disease, caused by contaminated food or water. The more you know about prevention and treatment of travelers' diarrhea, the more likely you will avoid several days of lost time while recovering.

Malaria
Malaria is a serious infectious disease, transmitted by mosquitos that causes many symptoms, including fever, fatigue, headache and muscle pain. Every effort should be made to avoid contacting this disease and if a fever develops it should be evaluated at the earliest possible moment.

Dengue Fever
Dengue, like malaria, is a mosquito-transmitted infectious disease that causes many of the same symptoms as malaria. There is no vaccine available and, unlike malaria, no specific treatment.

Rabies
Rabies is a fatal neurologic disease that is caused by contact with secretions from infected animals, especially dogs and bats. There is an excellent vaccine available to help prevent it.

Acute Mountain Sickness
Acute mountain sickness is a serious disease caused by rapid ascent to elevations that may be as low as 8,000 feet. It is important to have some understanding of the prevention, recognition, and treatment of this disease, as well as the effect on preexisting medical conditions.

Blood Clots
Lower leg deep vein blood clots (thrombosis) from long distance air travel are more likely to occur in persons with certain preexisting medical conditions. If you are at risk, there are steps to take to prevent clot formation.
